Conservative Budget Amendment – bullet points

 

  • £10M extra over five years for road resurfacing

 

  • £1M extra over 5 years into flood management and drainage improvements. Could be used for cleaning gulleys, small-scale river environmental works, feasibility studies to draw down Environment Agency money

Labour’s plans include a cut to this budget after year 1

 

  • £2M extra over 4 years to tackle council’s carbon emissions and air pollution

Labour’s climate change money falls out after year 1

 

  • Better bulky waste collection service – appointment-based
  • Improved accessibility at tips
  • Recycling in schools and recycling education in schools
  • Feasibility study for single-use plastic ban
  • Bin collections during Christmas week
  • More street cleaning – budget devolved to ward members

 

  • Feasibility study for Village & Town Digital Hubs and increased wifi connectivity, particularly in rural areas. Crucial to people who now work from home.
  • Extra £250k Investment in CCTV – to combat ASB, crime and fly-tipping.
  • Additional S106 officer to pull together outstanding S106 moneys and liaise with ward members

 

 

 

Additional facts

Labour council tax rise 33% over 7 years: rate of inflation 16%

In 2014, the council’s expenditure was £318M. £181M came from govt/business rates, £137M from council tax.

In 2021, the council’s expenditure will be £297M. £127M will come from the govt/business rates, £196M from council tax.
